A trend in American society has appeared that has had a positive impact on Americans as a whole. Health has once again returned as a main stream concern to the American mindset. People are dieting, trying to stay fit, and overall just trying to stay healthy. This shift in trends could not come at a better time as the United States leads the world in cancer, heart disease, and obesity. Growing concern for health has also sparked a concern for the right physicians. In recent time if someone had a cold they would take whatever over the counter remedy they could find and fight a cold until it went away. In severe cases people would go to there family doctor and be prescribed an anti-biotic or something else standard. American’s growing health concern has also lead to a more detailed medical search in which physician to go to. People are no longer content with going to the same general practice physician that their parents went to. Americans are now interested in what exactly are their ailments and which doctor is best suited for treating that problem. Americans no longer what the physician who will send them home with a bottle of penicillin or extra strength Tylenol. Physicians have noticed this growing trend in American needs and have complied. There are now more specialist then ever before in all fields. Unfortunately specialist also charge more than the standard physician. American health being a top priority has launch the need for more qualified physicians and more qualified nurses as well. There are now specialist with there own practices which are open to the public. There are now specialist for a number of things. There are cardiologist which specialize in the heart. A neurologist specializes in the brain. An oncologist specializes in cancer. An ophthalmologist specializes in the eyes. There are hundreds of different specializations for physicians. Each one studying in detail a certain facet in health, the body, or illness. A commonly searched specialist recently has been a dietician. A dietician can help someone plan and organize a diet that will work for the individual. Someone obsessed with beauty might turn to a physician who specializes in skin called a dermatologist or maybe eventually a plastic surgery. A woman would not go to a general physician if she was pregnant. She would go to a gynecologist first. A dentist in a way is a physician specialist. In a way there will always be a need for specialists in different fields due to the vast number of diseases, accidents, and illness that effect certain parts of our body. Such is the reason more physicians are looking to specialize and not go into general practice. Most Americans are smart enough to attempt a self diagnosis due to websites that provide a ton of information and possible causes just by indicating their symptoms. Hopefully the renewed desire to stay healthy will continue to flourish in the United States and American can soon call things like cancer and heart disease a thing of the past.
